January 2010, The Berkshire Eagle:
Young engineers on fast track

PITTSFIELD -- Drill presses, soldering irons and wire cutters are in the hands of youths at Reid Middle School. For the past 12 weeks, 14 students were able to participate in a pilot after-school engineering program known as DesignLab. The program is funded through the Future Engineers Center at the University of Massachusetts' College of Engineering in Lowell.

“This is so much fun!”; “I never got to use tools like these in my life!” “This is so cool!” These are just some of the accolades that Janice Kibbe, a 16-year veteran educator, has received from her students at STEM Middle Academy in Springfield while conducting DesignLab workshops.

March 2008: Lessons from America

UMass Lowell's Future Engineers Center hosted a visit from David Baker, a Design and Technology educator at the Latymer Upper School in England, when he came to check out DESIGNCAMP in the summer of 2007. The visit was mutually beneficial and David wrote an article that praises DESIGNCAMP in D&T Practice.
